  • completed CAT 2 course
Description

Safe operation is the key priority in performing flight tests. Test Pilots and Lead Flight Test Engineers for category 2 flight tests (CAT 2) operate as part of a flight test crew and take a directive role in flight tests. The responsible position of a TP or LFTE requires profound knowledge and proven competencies. This professional course is primarily addressed to personell, who will take the position of a TP or a LFTE CAT 1 for fixed wing aircraft in a design, production, test or certification organization.  Upon certification the course participants will receive an official graduation certificate / rating from EASA.

The course consists of the course modules/add-on features:

  • flight test management
  • performance testing
  • flight control systems and handling qualities testing
  • systems testing
  • CS-25 aircraft / multi-engine
  • final project

Beyond demonstrating individual competencies as per EASA Part-FCL / Part-21 training objectives, course participants will:

  • get training as test director / test conductor in different training scenarios
  • prepare and practice test flights in a Virtual Reality domain
  • fly at least 8 different aircraft types including multi-engine jet

In-flight training for TP/LFTE will include a total flight time of approximately 50/30 flight hours on a variety of single and multi engine aircraft and numerous hours of individual training in full flight simulators.

Students will be evaluated through examinations on all of the theoretical subjects and will prepare oral and written flight test reports. Upon completion of the syllabus students will evaluate an unknown aircraft within a final project. Furthermore instructors will continuously assess the student’s individual skills. If identified, individual training will be adapted in order to assure that the student is enabled:

  • to thoroughly plan the build-up of flight tests
  • to identify risks and create proper mitigation methods associated with flight tests
  • to perform system safety assessments and to develop safety strategies
  • to properly define the requirements for the Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) and utilize FTI to mitigate risks and gather the relevant test data
  • to conduct flight tests as test pilot or test director / test conductor
  • to standardize and analyze flight test data
  • to generate flight test reports showing compliance with certification requirements

Workload for the students is rated high.
